People ask me all the time how I go about getting personal photos for myself or my family. And while I do love my professional camera bodies and lenses, I don’t typically take them with me for all the small events and/or trips we take. Now, if I’m going someplace to TAKE photos specifically, I might bring the pro gear…but for the most part, I take my Nikon 1 system camera.
It’s a great system- a “mirrorless” camera with a small sensor, so a small format camera. But I can change lenses just like I can my “big” camera – and actually I have a bag full of lenses now. I even have a tiny version of the Nikon flash, a little “speed light” for the system. I love having these options, and the ability to be so light weight and compact.
So yes, all those Disney photos you see are taken with the Nikon 1 system. And most are downloaded to my iPad while in the parks, and many are edited with either Lightroom Mobile or Google’s “Snapseed” for effects. I love my portable system!
If you want a little help with your next big trip, or to figure out how to take better candids everyday, I do offer one on one photo tutor sessions for $50 each. We meet for up to two hours and go over your images, your equipment and your questions or concerns. I help you understand exposure, equipment, and processing to get the results you want.
So whatever you do, find a system that works – because leaving the camera home should never be the compromise. Camera phones just aren’t the same…
