Senior Portraits do not have to be the same old, same old stuffy black velvet drape and blue background any longer. Nor do they have to be snapshots from a friend, or a quick run into a mall photographer’s studio. Why go to a photographer that does a little bit of everything – and none of it really well – when you can have a photographer that actually specializes in high school senior pictures for your once in your lifetime portraits?
When you think about it, you won’t be photographed like this again until your wedding day in most cases – unless you are going on to be a model, that is. And since most folks are not going to be models, this is not only your last school picture, it is an opportunity to have fantastic images that express YOU – your personality and your beauty. The dynamics of you – all in one customized session.
All of my seniors learn about how to pose, how to watch for complimentary light, and, most importantly, how to feel beautiful. I’m still amazed at the numbers of teenagers I get that don’t realize just how beautiful they are – and I have the opportunity to see them without any preconceived notions or opinions, so I’m fairly objective about it.
We start every session by going over the clothing you’ve brought and any accessories, special items, etc. We plan for what you want, how you want it – and then I’ll get a little creative.
In the case of this senior, I had a few new props I wanted to show off and I had a couple of set ups ready to go if they worked for her and our clothing choices – and they did! The new chandelier is gorgeous – and doesn’t that young girl look GREAT with it? Against the perfect backdrop, it’s sole purpose is to draw attention to the subject – the high school senior in the amazing blue dress.
And the new multi colored beaded curtain finishes off the cute orange couch (courtesy of a former client who kept an eye open for me, thank you Kaitlin!) and the multi colored backdrop. Another opportunity to see props and drops in a new way to compliment – not compete – with the subject.
I’m always looking for new items to add to the studio – and yes, it’s getting tight down there – but we make it work. I’ll take a full indoor studio with air conditioning any day over having to shoot in heat advisories, right? Having both indoor studio and outdoor studio options for my seniors is all part of the package.
What will you have for YOUR senior portraits? Will you look back at them and feel beautiful? I sincerely hope so….
